Which makes absolutely zero logical sense. Whilst complaining about parameters being set in stone. The biggest misconception being that these parameters can change/develop/grow/progress/evolve. As in not actual in-depth play and testing, but bare minimum play. Likewise, extremely hasty strong criticisms that is very obviously based on cursory impressions. With no regard to approaching things with a clear mind and objectivity.

Followed by trying to superimpose these personal notions of theirs into this expansion. In regards to Ideology, I have definitely noticed some users with their own personal preconceived ideologies on what an “ideology” is and should be. Which just has no logic, and is comparable to some of these criticisms about Ideology. Therefore, the dev should add beards and tattoos to the game to improve on difficulty settings. Then, saying the ability to change difficulty presets and customize difficulty parameters is no good. It’s like claiming to play only on Peaceful difficulty. When in actuality, a decent portion of the user base is getting confused off the bat, followed by frustrated, followed by coming up with ignorant presumptions about it, followed by going online ranting about completely incorrect interpretations of its functionality, due to not actually really taking the time to understand anything.Īs for these invalid criticisms, I have noticed some negative reviews and criticisms of Ideology that actually have nothing to do with Ideology. As if it was presumed that the user base are all intellects who apprehend it for what it is, and take the time to use it to happily setup their religion. Or criticisms being about the tediousness and intuitiveness of Ideology that would naturally result in some of these misconceptions running around.

Valid criticisms include these options being fundamental to the game while being sold as paid expansion. However, I have also noticed some criticisms that I consider to be invalid due to very limited interaction with this expansion, superimposing personal preconceptions of the word “ideology”, and overall lack of any sort of comprehension on the actual functionality this expansion offers. There are some valid criticism to this expansion. Overall, I consider Ideology to be very well designed. Including, continuing your society in a new world after beating the game. This also includes quests related to your religion and new win conditions. For example, new content allows you to setup an underground society in a way that cannot be done in the base game. This includes the addition of very nice content which is all meant to contribute to the various possibilities users can come up with for their initial setup. Ideology is very well defined in what it offers in regards to this basis of setting parameters to make up an overall religion for your society. At worst, this can easily add quite the tedious (not so fun for some) time and effort to world setup before even getting into the game. What Ideology essentially brings is a robust customization section for world setup. Each preset sets a value for all parameters, but each parameter can be individually adjusted by the user. As well as the custom difficulty section with specific presets.

This can be compared to the custom scenario section that you can setup at the start, and save for later use. The combined result of all these various parameters are effectively your society’s religion (ideology or ideoligion). Or a mood bonus for gouging out your own eyes. Such as a mood penalty for chopping down a tree. With Ideology, you can set similar parameters for various aspects. An example from the base game would be the default parameter of incurring a mood penalty when seeing a human corpse. The Ideology expansion essentially adds a section during world setup that allows users to customize all kinds of parameters for how your sims interact and are affected by various aspects of the game world. Which I genuinely hope it does not go further than it already has. But part of this is because of coming across really incorrect interpretations of it more times than I would ever have expected, that seems to be turning into some kind of online bandwagon. Hopefully this can help anybody thinking about getting the Ideology expansion, or looking to get into it. Devs should not listen to some of these hasty criticisms based on very limited interaction and very limited understanding of the expansion.
